Gratitude each day keeps anger away

During the holidays and especially thanksgiving it’s really easy to be thankful for everything that’s positive in our life – our family, friends, significant other, job, pets etc. But what about the challenging experiences? Are you grateful for these tough times just as much as the good times?

Last week’s blog was about how we deal with uncertainty, fear and uncomfortable feelings and experiences. We tend to push these far away, not deal with them, and even deny they exist at all. When we can lean into these uncomfortable dark moments or feelings, we can bring to light the lesson and gift in this situation.

Think of something that is currently uncomfortable or challenging in your life. It may be something small or something really heavy. Sometimes we are so caught up in the story, that it’s hard to see the big picture. Keep in mind that this too will pass, and you will be stronger for it.

Don’t believe me? Think back 5 years ago to 2008. Where were you? What challenges were you experiencing? Did those experiences need to happen in order for you to be where you’re at today? How did you grow from that experience? What did you learn from that person? Who is in your life today because of what you went through or because of someone you met? Who is not in your life today? How strong are you because of these challenges?

So when you start to feel overwhelmed, sad, angry, hopeless or fearful, think about the times you overcame a challenging time. Remember that you are a heart-warrior and can overcome anything when you dedicate yourself to stay on your path of purpose, awareness, and gratitude.

Open yourself up to the good times and the rough times. When you numb your pain, you also numb your joy. Forget yesterday – it has already forgotten you. Don’t sweat tomorrow – you haven’t even met. Instead, open your eyes and your heart to a truly precious gift – today. Being human, being open, being alive means being ready to experience it all, even the chaotic moments. When you are grateful, there is no room for anger, resentment, or hate.

It’s important to take time to notice what you are grateful for, each day, including the crappiest of situations. Be grateful for this time because every experience and every person has a gift to give you if you are willing to learn and accept it. Gratitude can move you from a place of fear, anger and shame to a place of hope, abundance and joy. You have the power to shift your perspective and make miracles happen every day. Be grateful for this day, who you are, and all the gifts you have to offer.  I am grateful for you!
