2013 hasn’t been the best year – I’ve been dealing with my dad’s terminal illness, had 2 heartbreaks and went through a lot of internal struggles. It has been a bit of a rough road the past 4 years since I got divorced, moved from California to Florida, sold my business and transitioned from a high powered business owner to “enlightened” yogi (notice the quotations). Definitely disappointed, I thought I would be happily married working on baby #2, instead of still “figuring” it all out at age 34. But through large life challenges, there are large life transformations.
I used to anesthetize my pain through wine, food, a new haircut, work, a new pair of shoes, boys – you name it. When faced with uncertainty, fear, and uncomfortable feelings, I had the typical impulse to flee, but I learned that this is the opportunity to face ourselves. The only way to deal with pain is to go inward and through it.
Our mind shouts, but our heart whispers. Through the practice of meditation and yoga, I have been able to quiet my mind and tune in to my heart, my soul’s true voice. I have tapped in to some deep-rooted creativity and love that I never in my wildest dreams thought I possessed. A quarter-way through 2013, the light bulb went off, and I realized that this 4-year journey filled with trials and tribulations plus all of my hard work has brought me to where I am today: an empowered, happy and grateful woman who loves and honors herself. Finally feeling that this wide uncertain road has narrowed and cleared, I now have clarity and purpose.
So, looking back…2013 wasn’t so bad. It was actually great! Joy can be found even in hardship, treating everything that comes our way as a special gift for us to grow and heal. We may not know where these people or circumstances will lead us, but they are connecting us to where we are today. And today is exactly where we are supposed to be.
So here I come 2014!
My purpose and greatest passions are to help others love themselves, become whole, release their blocks to the happiness and love that already lies within, practice mindfulness, gratitude, and compassion in order to live a joyful and abundant life.
There’s a little voice inside all of us that longs for something better, knowing we have a greater purpose to share. Discovering your true purpose is one of your life’s great gifts. It may take a bit of time, introspection, patience, and compassion, but continue to peel away of the layers that conceal that which is rightly yours. Go deep and do the work to unearth your true self. Your life begins at the end of your comfort zone. Be a first-class version of you, rather than a second-class version of somebody else. Each of us has a calling, a special gift that we need to show the world.
Discover your passion and celebrate it every day. What excites you? Are you playing small because of fear of failure or fear of success? When you find your passion and truly commit to your purpose, it will fill up your heart and inspire you to work purposefully and with clear intention at what you do and to become the best version of who you are. When you are passionate about what you do and who you are, you will share your love with everyone around you and inspire the world – and the universe will help you realize your dreams.
We could have been born anything else – an ant, a tree, a snake, a cloud in the sky, but we were privileged to be born human. We get to breathe, think, love, hurt, feel, and change. Take time and truly appreciate your gift that you are given as we are but mere guests on this lovely earth.
How are you going to spend your time on this earth?
Weekly Mantra: There is nothing outside myself that can heal me. I will continue to keep coming back to myself to connect with my truth, my heart, my soul, my essence. All of the power and answers lie within me.
