I used to try to be perfect to everyone, except me. I would wear different masks and try on various personalities to fit what I thought others wanted me to be. In my friendships, I strained to be an extravert, when I’m really an introvert to the core. I showed up in romantic relationships in ways I thought my partner wanted instead of loving exactly who I was and valuing what I brought to the relationship. In my early years a as a yoga teacher, I would try to teach yoga like this teacher or that teacher. I fooled myself for a long time thinking these masks were ME.
It’s wonderful to be inspired by other people. Emulating is a form of flattery, but you have special gifts to share, sweet friend. When you try to be someone else, you show up a lesser version of that person, because that person is already taken. You have talents and gifts and unique qualities that no one else has. It’s a scientific fact! You have a specific and unique DNA that no one else has.
It’s time to stop playing small and be completely you. Real. Raw. Authentically YOU. Remove your mask and meet others heart to heart, not mask to mask. The people who don’t get you or like it will fade away. Your tribe will find you and they’ll love you. You will feel liberated! And the best part is you’ll also inspire other people to do the same.
Did you need this reminder today that you are unique, special and one-of-a-kind? Please let me know on my blog.
